Johnson earns academic honors
Oregon sophomore womens basketball player Amanda Johnson was named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team as it was announced today by the Academic All-America® Committee.
Johnson, who has a 4.0 gpa and is majoring in Psychology, will now be eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
The Santa Rosa, Calif., native is also excelling on the basketball court this year. The 6-foot-2 forward is averaging 13.6 points as well as a team-leading 9.1 rebounds per game.
Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs) for men's and women's basketball.
Oregon has had just two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Stefanie Kasperski (1989&1990) and Bev Smith (1980&1982) were each two-time winners of the award.
Also elected to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team along with Johnson was Lauren Sims (Long Beach State), Tasha Harris (Boise State), Miranda Ayim (Pepperdine) and Danielle Orsillo (Arizona State).
